AHEAD AFRICA – Ghana Elections 2024 Report
During Ghana's 2024 elections, Penplusbytes, in collaboration with the European Partnership for Democracy’s (EPD) AHEAD Project, launched the Disinformation Detection Platform (DDP), an AI-powered tool designed to monitor, identify, and mitigate disinformation before, during, and after the elections. The DDP worked in coordination with fact-checking organizations, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Gender-based organisations, media houses, and digital platforms to verify claims and curb the spread of false information. This report provides an in-depth analysis of disinformation trends observed during the 2024 general elections, details how the DDP functioned, evaluates its impact, and presents practical recommendations for key stakeholders to strengthen electoral integrity in the future.
