In a move to address the rising levels of misinformation and disinformation among young persons, Penplusbytes – the hub for media and information literacy education in Ghana, is touring schools in the Greater Accra Region with TruthQuest, an educational gaming platform that seeks to empower school children aged 9 to 17 years to identify, expose, and curb the harms of misinformation and disinformation in today’s digital space.
Buckle up for the ultimate truth adventure! Happening this June, the GamifyMIL4Kids train will make its first appearance at The McCarthy Hill School on 18th June, and cruise to Accra College of Education Demonstration School on 19th June. After a quick refuel, the train will storm Osu Presbyterian Girls Basic School on 25th June, with the final showdown at Flagstaff Basic School on 27th June 2025.
The schools’ roadshow, under Penplusbytes’ GamifyMIL4Kids project, aims to engage nearly 5,000 students through a fun, game-based learning experience. The initiative also targets parents and teachers with the gaming platform to guide children’s media consumption.
On why this matters, Emmanuel Koranteng Asomani, Project Lead at Penplusbytes, stated, “Mis/disinformation isn’t only an adult problem; children are vulnerable too. For us at Penplusbytes, we are on a mission not to leave anyone behind in MIL education. By catching them young through playful learning, we are empowering children to spot fake news before they become accidental spreaders. The TruthQuest game turns critical thinking into an adventure, proving that media literacy skills are best taught through play. Through this game, children will develop the requisite skills to navigate risks like cyberbullying, spreading disinformation and unsafe online behavior.”
The TruthQuest game is built by Penplusbytes with support from Impact Amplifier under its Africa Online Safety Fund. Play TruthQuest for free now on https://gamifymil.org/
