Penplusbytes, with support from DW Akademie and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, is set to host a Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for deaf school facilitators and sign language interpreters as part of its inclusive approach to promote digital literacy and combat misinformation among all groups in society.
Slated for 21st – 23rd November 2025, this three-day residential workshop will bring together 20 participants, a balanced group of deaf and hearing teachers from schools for the deaf across Ghana, to build their capacity in identifying, understanding, and teaching Media and Information Literacy concepts within their communities.
This training targets teachers and facilitators from beneficiary schools under Penplusbytes’ Media and Information Literacy in Special Schools initiative, ensuring continued support for inclusive digital education and accessibility. Participants will be equipped with practical skills in digital literacy, source verification, and accessibility-centred teaching methods, empowering them to design and deliver MIL lessons adapted to the unique needs of deaf learners.
The workshop will cover three core modules: MIL Foundations and Accessibility, Critical Analysis and Source Verification, and Training Delivery and Community Engagement. Each day’s session will feature interactive workshops, group discussions and practical exercises supported by professional sign language interpreters to ensure full participation and inclusion.
Following the training, participants will be invited to apply for mini-bursaries to implement community-level MIL outreach programs. Ten of these proposals will be competitively selected for funding based on innovation, reach and sustainability. These community projects will enable participants to share the knowledge and skills they gained, extending the impact of the initiative to deaf schools and local communities across Ghana.
