Penplusbytes is pleased to announce its participation in the 12th Global Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy in Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 20-22, 2024. The event will bring together over 500 democracy advocates, civil society leaders, and political thinkers from nearly 100 countries under the theme: “Revitalizing Democracy: Resilience, Reflection, and Innovation.” Representing Ghana and Penplusbytes at this significant international forum will be our Executive Director, Jerry Sam.
“The 12th Global Assembly is an unparalleled opportunity for democracy advocates worldwide to come together, share insights, and chart a way forward for democratic resilience. At Penplusbytes, we believe that technology and innovation can be powerful tools for strengthening governance and combating disinformation, and we look forward to contributing to these critical global conversations,” Mr. Sam said.
The 12th Global Assembly coincides with the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s first democratic elections and serves as a pivotal platform to celebrate the resilience of democratic movements while addressing pressing global challenges such as rising authoritarianism, misinformation, and corruption. The event will feature dialogues, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening democratic processes worldwide.
Attendees will reflect on the progress made since the founding of the World Movement for Democracy 25 years ago and discuss strategies for fostering democratic innovation. Additionally, the Assembly will also honour the historical significance of South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle, offering participants with a powerful source of inspiration for building inclusive and resilient democratic societies.
Penplusbytes is committed to engaging with global democracy advocates and contributing to discussions that focus on safeguarding democratic values, leveraging technology to enhance governance, and combating disinformation.
