FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
23rd October, 2025
Penplusbytes, in partnership with DW Akademie and UNESCO Ghana, is set to host the Youth Against Disinformation Conference 2025 under the theme “#SpottheFake: Youth Leading Media and Information Literacy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
Building on the success of the inaugural edition held in 2024, this year’s conference will expand the conversation on youth-led action against misinformation and disinformation in the digital age. The two-part conference, scheduled for October 24 in Takoradi and October 31 in Sunyani, aims to empower young people to navigate AI-driven information spaces responsibly and strengthen their role in democratic participation.
As artificial intelligence continues to shape how information is created, shared, and consumed, the risks of algorithmic bias, deepfakes and AI-generated misinformation have become more pronounced. This conference seeks to equip young people with critical Media and Information Literacy (MIL) skills to identify, question and counter AI-enhanced disinformation while promoting truth and accountability in digital spaces.
This year’s conference also forms part of activities marking UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week, reinforcing the importance of informed digital citizenship and youth participation in sustaining democratic values. The event will feature interactive panel discussions, capacity-building sessions, and digital storytelling showcases, offering participants practical knowledge on detecting AI-generated content, understanding the influence of algorithms on public perception and using technology responsibly to advance civic engagement.
Bringing together partners including UNESCO Ghana, Ghana Commission for UNESCO, DW Akademie, activists, schools and youth groups across the Western and Bono regions, the conference underscores a collective commitment to building a resilient information ecosystem driven by informed and empowered young people.
Through this initiative, Penplusbytes continues its mission of empowering young people with critical thinking skills and digital resilience to navigate the age of artificial intelligence, fostering a generation of informed, responsible, and active digital citizens.
