Penplusbytes to Contribute Expertise at the Experiential Learning Seminar on Electoral Integrity and Advocacy in Nairobi

AHEAD learning event

Penplusbytes will be participating in the upcoming Experiential Learning Seminar on Electoral Integrity and Advocacy, scheduled for March 24 – 25, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Organised by the African Election Observers Network (AfEONet) in collaboration with Action Coalition for Media (ACFIM), Election Observers Network (E-HORN), and other partners of the AHEAD Africa Consortium, this seminar will bring together citizen election observers from across Africa to exchange knowledge, discuss best practices, and explore strategies for enhancing electoral transparency and integrity.

As part of the discussions, Jerry Sam, Executive Director of Penplusbytes, will speak on “Leveraging CivicTech for Electoral Transparency and Reflections on Key Learnings,” highlighting how digital tools are shaping election observation and citizen engagement.

Additionally, Penplusbytes will also spotlight two of its key initiatives: the Disinformation Detection Platform (DDP), an AI-enabled digital tool designed to monitor, analyse, and combat election-related disinformation using keywords in real-time; ensuring accurate reporting and promoting accountability throughout the electoral process. Alongside this, the Voters’ Compass, an interactive platform aimed at helping voters critically evaluate political party manifestos. It highlights the most critical policy areas for the electorate, providing a platform where political leaders can present, clarify, and discuss their manifesto positions. Both projects reinforce Penplusbytes’ commitment to fostering credible elections, countering misinformation, and strengthening democratic accountability through technology.

This seminar provides a critical opportunity to engage with stakeholders across Africa and contribute to strengthening democratic governance on the continent. “Drawing from Ghana’s 2024 elections, we have gained valuable insights on leveraging social media monitoring, election observation, and transparency initiatives. Penplusbytes is committed to harnessing technology, data, and media innovations to foster transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral processes,” Jerry Sam said.
