The year 2024 has been declared a year of elections around the globe. While many countries have already conducted theirs, African nations like Ghana, Mozambique, Somalia, and Guinea-Bissau are yet to go to the polls. As such, upholding electoral integrity is essential for consolidating democracy, peace, security, and stability on the African continent.
Recognizing this, Penplusbytes is participating in the Electoral Integrity Summit in Kampala, Uganda, to engage in critical discussions with stakeholders from across the continent about the challenges and opportunities related to electoral integrity.
The 3-day summit (September 10-12, 2024), themed “Strengthening Electoral Transparency, Public Oversight, and Collaborative Reforms,” aims to provide a platform for participants to reflect, shape, and share their visions regarding their contributions as observers in building electoral integrity.
According to Mr. Peter Adivor, Head of the African Elections Project at Penplusbytes, the summit presents a unique opportunity for stakeholders within the African Elections Space to review strategies aimed at strengthening election integrity frameworks and procedures governing elections across Africa.
Mr. Adivor will also contribute to discussions on “Implementing and Monitoring Election Observation Recommendations.”
“Penplusbytes, through our African Elections Project, has since 2008 covered 16 elections across Africa using digital tools and leveraging the power of the media to ensure credible elections across the continent. This summit will be a unique platform to share some of our learnings with stakeholders, as well as how we are contributing to the promotion of transparency and accountability through the deployment of digital platforms and innovation in Africa,” he stated.
The summit is being organized by the African Election Observation Network (AfEONet) under the AHEAD Africa Project.
