Penplusbytes joins the rest of the world in marking UNESCO’s 2024 International Day of Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) in Accra, Ghana.
This year’s event under the theme “Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector,” will convene stakeholders, including government representatives, policymakers, civil society organizations, and citizens, to reflect on the progress made in promoting access to information since the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
The IDUAI 2024 Global Conference, slated for October 1 and 2, will also provide a platform for stakeholders to share best practices for integrating the right to information into the organizational systems and cultures of various public authorities.
On Day 2 of the event, Mr. Jerry Sam, Executive Director of Penplusbytes, will participate in a high-level panel discussion titled “Harnessing the Power of Data for Positive Change: A Commitment to Access to Information.”
This discussion will explore the role of technology in facilitating access to information, the need to safeguard personal data while promoting open data policies, and the ethical implications of data collection and usage.
For over two decades, Penplusbytes has been at the forefront of empowering individuals and institutions with the skills and tools needed to harness information for progress. Penplusbytes’ initiatives have spanned areas such as media and information literacy, transparency in governance, digital rights advocacy, and open data practices.
As the world celebrates IDUAI 2024, Penplusbytes congratulates all stakeholders for the progress made in access to information and calls on all parties to collaborate in creating a more informed, transparent, and just society.
