Over 20 municipal and district health officers from the Greater Accra region are the last batch of participants to be trained on the use of a health services tracking platform under the USAID funded “People for Health” (P4H) project.
Health directors, district planning officers, social welfare and development officers from the Regional Health Directorate, municipal assemblies (Ashaiman, La-Nkwantanang, Tema Metropolitan and La Dadekotopon) and the Regional Coordinating Council are participating in this two-day training from the 22nd to 23rd of June 2017
The SEND-Ghana, Penplusbytes and Ghana News Agency consortium implementing the 5-year USAID funded “People for Health” (P4H) project is set to deliver this final batch of training for its network of health service providers and other stakeholders. This training is expected to help participants leverage a technology platform to engage and send feedback to each other and citizens about access to and quality of health services at point of delivery.
The interactive platform purposely built for the P4H project is mainly to provide and share information on maternal and child health/family planning, malaria, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition and HIV/AIDS health service delivery at the district, regional and national levels. It is also to provide a non-human interface means of reporting cases of stigmatization and discrimination in receiving proper health care especially among key populations and people living with HIV/AIDS.
According to the Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Kwami Ahiabenu II, “These trainings are intended to be ‘trainings for the trainers’ as participants equipped with the requisite skills are expected to become “platform champions” who will in turn provide training and guidance to other users.”
The USAID “People for Health (P4H)” Project is being implemented in 20 districts in four regions of Ghana and seeks to strengthen organisational and institutional capacities of government and civil society organisations (CSOs) for mutual accountability in health, HIV, water, sanitation and hygiene, family planning and nutrition policy formulation and implementation.
The project’s ultimate goal is to deliver tangible results in the improvement of health indicators and more importantly ensure that key populations have bias free and equal access to quality health services across the country.
