Penplusbytes Pay Courtesy Call on IPI Executive Director

The President of Penplusbytes, Kwami Ahiabenu, II, on Monday, April 20th, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the International Press Institute (IPI), Barbara Trionfi to discuss a wide array of issues bordering on the works of both organisations, the current global media landscape and how they can work together especially in empowering the media to drive transparency and accountability in the extractive sector.

The meeting, which took place at IPI’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria, discussed the work of Penplusbytes in championing the use of technology to drive governance and accountability, new media and innovations as well as empowering the media to play an effective oversight role in oil, gas and mining revenue and resources.

IPI, a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists is dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, the promotion of the free flow of news and information, and the improvement of the practices of journalism. Its philosophy, states freedom of expression as the right that protects all other rights and hence the need for freedom to be promoted and defended.
