African Elections Project (AEP) is covering Togolese polls on 4th Thursday March 2010 at its flagship website: www.africanelections.org/togo  , via twitter at http://twitter.com/togoelections  and also watching the media through its media monitoring system.


The Togo 2010 elections is between 7 presidential candidates with Ruling party, (Rassemblement du Peuple Togolais ) Rally for the Togolese People. Its ccandidate and sitting President GNASSINGBE Essozimna Faure is running for a second term and is highly expected to win. For the opposition parties, longtime opposition leader Gilchrist Olympio of ( Union des Forces de  Changement ) Union of forces for Change is not standing due to health reasons but the party has chosen  FABRE Jean-Pierre who is standing as a strong contender to the ruling party. The third largest opposition party (Comité d’Action pour le Renouveau), Action Committee for the Renewing is also contesting the polls with AGBOYIBO Yawovi as its presidential candidate. Other contestants are  ADJAMAGBO-JOHNSON Kafui of (Convention Démocratique des peuples Africains), the first and only female presidential candidate.  KAGBARA Bassabi from the (Parti Démocratique Panafricain), KODJO Messan Agbeyomé Gabriel of the (Organisation pour Bâtir dans l’Union un

Togo uni et  Solidaire ) and  Lawson Jean Nicolas Messan from the ( Parti du Renouveau et de la Rédemption) .

 

AEP was established on September 4th 2008 to empower journalists to cover elections using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) across the continent while providing authoritative elections Information, knowledge and news online across the continent. AEP has so far successful taken off in Ghana, Cote d' Ivoire, Mozambique, Malawi, Mauritania, Guinea, Namibia, Botswana and Niger.

 

The African Elections Project is coordinated by Ghana based International Institute for ICT Journalism (www.penplusbytes.org) working hand in hand with key partners.
